For The Statesman
The Statesman is a dream for George Washington University students, young professionals, or those wishing to be right in the heart of the city. Within a 10 minute walk, residents have access to all the tourist highlights, the metro, Whole Foods, and a whole host of restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops. The apartments are bright and light-filled, arranged around a central courtyard (1st floor residents have private patio access). 24 hour gym access and concierge service, parking, and a rooftop deck that provides a stunning view of the Mall make this building a monumental hit.
Review from Apartments.com
I have broken this review up into sections for easier reading. Overview ----------- Compared to the other apartments in Foggy Bottom, The Statesman has reasonable rent for the quality of living and location. Other apartments nearby with lower quality floors, walls, windows, etc were $100-$200 MORE than The Statesman. The Statesman offers roof access, a laundry room, workout room and 24/7 concierge desk. There is also a parking garage beneath the building, but that is managed by a separate company and is a separate cost. Utilities ----------- All included except internet, phone and cable. Amenities ----------- The roof access is great to have to get outside and relax, but lacks a good view due to the Red Cross Building next-door being much larger. The roof patio is also rather small, but rarely have I seen more than 5 people up there at a time. The laundry room has a good number of washers and dryers and I have never experienced them all being used at once. Although, I am sure there are certain times that it gets busy. The fitness room is about 30' x 30'. They have ellipticals, treadmills, stationary bikes, and free weights. The room is not very large but I have only ever seen about 4 people in there at any given time. The room is in the garage, but is accessible from the same area that the laundry room in located. The people at the concierge desk are very helpful during the day, but the night shift tends to be preoccupied listening to music or watching Netflix. They also have a Keurig machine and keep a good stock of coffee at the desk. Location ----------- The Statesman is perfect for somebody attending GW or working in the Foggy Bottom area. Its only about 5 blocks from the Foggy Bottom Metro stop and less than one block away from a bus stop. At a walking pace you can get to the other end of campus in about 10 minutes and is only 3 blocks from the White House. It is 4 blocks from Whole Foods, 1 block from FoBoGro, and 2 blocks from CVS. It's only about a 15 minute walk from the National Mall as well. Traffic noise is not bad at all on F street but the stretch of 21st street that The Statesman is adjacent to has occasional noise from city buses. Other ----------- Loading dock for moving in/out Wood Floors 2 Garbage shoots on every floor Slow elevators Good Security (Tap access to enter the building) You may paint your apartment and use nails RCN or Comcast for internet/cable
Review from Apartments.com
Overview: The Statesman is a great apartment building if you are looking to live in a nice neighborhood of DC without spending a fortune. It is a clean building The majority of tenants are GW students. Pricing: They offer studio and one bedroom apartments with a couple of different choices in regard to square footage and layouts. The apartments have good lighting, clean floors, and a great amount of storage space (I live in a studio apartment that has three closets and great cabinet space in both the bathroom and kitchen). Compared to other buildings in the area that cost the same or even more, the Statesman is much cleaner and operates more efficiently. Amenities: There is a rooftop lounging area, a gym in the garage level, laundry, and a 24/7 concierge desk. My only complaint about the rooftop is that I wish it was a bit larger. However, I have been up at many different times during the day and during the week and it is pretty empty most of the time. It doesn't have the best view because of the Red Cross building. The gym is small (two ellipticals, three or four treadmills, a stationary bike, and free weights) but it has never been crowded. I have never had trouble finding a machine in the laundry room. The daytime staff is VERY friendly! The package service is also great-you receive an email when your package arrives and you simply go to the front desk to pick it up. There is a parking garage and you can purchase a spot for an extra monthly charge but the garage itself is operated and owned by another company. Utilities: All are included except for phone, Internet, and cable. Other notes: Wood floors (parquet) The ability to paint (with permission) Large windows that take up an entire wall for great natural light Security (tap access into the building, stairwells, elevators, laundry, and gym) Close to the Foggy Bottom metro stop, CVS, Starbucks, Whole Foods, and FoBoGro

Preparing to move into The Statesman, which is in a fantastic location! Ciera and the office staff have been so helpful in answering questions and juggling schedules for viewing, move-in, etc.--a huge plus! The apartments are BIG and the complex is well-run. Looking forward to our new home!
